What We Can All Learn About Body Image From A Teenage Naturist

By Guest Blogger - Ms. Barely Hidden
Who better to train me / us about teens and body image than a adolescent naturist girl! Fortunate for me, there 's a wonderful family who I love dearly, and as luck would have it, among the daughters is 15 years old, a naturist and a talented writer! Below is the article she wrote especially for us.
Teen Girls And Body Image Problems
Seeing Through Natural Eyes - Teenage Body Image and Naturism
I just recently turned 15 years old. I'm a teenaged girl and I've been a naturist for the last 3 years. Now, I attend an all-girls school where personal growth and development are strongly supported. Consequently, body approval is also prevalent in our community. Despite this, the students around me still appear to have difficulty accepting their own bodies. As https://videonudist.com/videos/here-i-am-at-my-beach-1570.html , I am faced everyday with predicaments and worries concerning my body and others. At school, regardless of who you hang out with, you hear people say things like; "I'm too fat." "You are so pretty!" "My boobs are too small." "My boobs are too large." "I wish I looked like you."
Teenage Body Image
Personally I do not find these issues to be as pressing. As a young child, I loved to read and learn. I didn't see lots of TV or read magazines. By preventing those two media sources, I managed to avoid so much of the mainstream media's thoughts. I was not comparing myself to versions and I looked up to my parents as examples of great adults. My dad was also a pic-shoot stylist for some time, which presented me to an entirely different view of trend than the broadly accepted view. I saw fashion and clothes generally, to have two primary uses: function or expression.
I understood I would not seem like a model in a magazine, but I also understood that models didn't look like models in magazines. Hairdressers, make-up artists, photographers, and stylists all brought to the image that would function as product of the photo-shoot. Actually, only a small few of the pictures taken ever make it to the public eye. Understanding this relieved that pressure of living up to the graphics of attractiveness which were illustrated in fashion magazines everywhere.
Yet, I still started to become insecure. I was still too skinny, too short, and too bony. There are two things that helped me gain self-confidence and approval of my own body. Dance and naturism really allowed me to overcome my insecurities. Dance was a way for me to learn to maintain control of my body and to accept the fact that it transformed at another rate than my peers' bodies. Naturism on the other hand, allowed me to actually see that nobody was the same. Everybody was different and the socially approved viewpoints of beauty were restricted to some skinny amount of actual people. Even then, they didn't fit the ideal perfectly.
In general, I found attractiveness to be an extremely subjective ideal that depended on the situation and individual. I found that, accepting that your own body will grow in its way is an important part of body acceptance.
